2014 April News Letter

It is Happy Birthday time to our long term secretary (how many years?) Brenda Downie.  Brenda will be enjoying a visit from the Easter Bunny, hot cross buns and all the goodies of a birthday party all wrapped up in one celebration.

The Hills Branch conducted their show early in March with the Northside contingent plundering much of the first placings.  Northside representatives were P&V Giles, Paul O’Neill, Dennis Becket, Ella Cooper, G&M Lynch.

In the Open Section, P&V Giles secured four first placings, 3 Specials and 2 Best of Variety Awards.  Remember, The Hills is one of the strongest clubs in NSW.

Paul O’Neill obtained Best of Variety in Australia Yellow Face Blue along with three firsts in Novice Class.

Dennis Becket received Champion Opposite Sex in the Novice Young section, as well as various placings in class, plus specials.

Ella Cooper entered two birds in the novice section for two first placings.

G&M Lynch entered 5 birds with a result of four first placings and one special.

Central Coast Show was a real bonanza for Dennis Becket.  With a young bird, six months of age, Dennis cleaned up Novice Intermediate and Open to take Best of Variety in the Light Green Section.

Congratulations Dennis.

Congratulations to Gary Job, who was smart enough to win Best Crest of the Show.

Gary states his bird was not the best budgerigar but was far and away the best crested bird of all.

I think all varieties should be judged in this manner.

On Saturday, 19th April, Manly Warringah Avicultural Society will be conducting their Annual Show at St Ives Showground.

This is a good opportunity to display your birds without having to travel too far.  The Show is an all in affair with novice, intermediate and open all opposing one another but there are numerous classes where the big boys don’t have any entries.  This is a lovely show with heaps of beautifully coloured finches and canaries.  Entries close the previous Monday to the show.

A really good night is assured for all those who attend the meeting on Friday.  Barry and Terese Ryan from Ellenbee Bird Seed and Supplies will be with us with a whole range of goods that we may, can, will, like to, probably will use in our aviary in the future and this comes with a full explanation of when, how and why a particular product will be most beneficial to our birds. Terese has a thorough knowledge of the make up and benefits of all the products on display and is able to give a price comparison on similar products from different suppliers.  Should any member require any seed or product of any kind that Ellenbee handles, Barry is only too happy to load on to the van and deliver to the meeting hall on the night.  All you have to do is ring Ellenbee with an order for free delivery.

There is a lot happening on the BSNSW scene with a push to have it abolished and a new organisation called The Budgerigar Council of NSW Inc in its place.

There is a lot of information on the website highlighting the need for change and also articles on the reasons to stay as we are at present.

Please read the pros and cons so that we may have a fruitful discussion at our meeting on Friday.

It is not much use sending delegates to management meetings if the delegates don’t know what the club members they represent are thinking or wanting.

A mighty big welcome to David and Jessica Dunne who have joined our happy throng at Northside.
It is lovely to see members of family joining together with an interest in our hobby.
